Blogger's Quilt Festival

So I have been checking out the beautiful quilts over at a Blogger's Quilt Festival and thought I would try this out.  There are lots of quilts to look through and enjoy.

I thought I would enter this quilt since I just love it and just put it on the bed at the cottage.  What a way to brighten up a room.  I am never good at naming my quilts.  I just call this one Terrain since I used a layer cake of Kate Spain's line and then added in some others from Central Park and Good Fortune as well.  I also took some solids that coordinated as well.  I knew I wanted this as a bed quilt and the pattern was from Moda Bake Shop and was call Ruby, Pearl, and Opal Quilt. I just kept going till I had used up all of what I had.  I had this quilted at my LQS, Patched Works.  I loved the daisy like flower.  I put Kona butter on the back.

Finished size is 91" x 91"
I am entering this in the Bed Quilt Category.

Thanks for stopping by!

Heart Quilt Top-Flimsy

I was so excited to finish this quilt top.  I tend to put things off that scare me a bit and cutting into the limited amount of fabric scared me.  See I generally follow a pattern.  I can change it up or improv my way through but generally when I make a quilt I have a pattern and know what I need.  So on the string heart quilt, no pattern.  I knew I wanted to make this as a wedding gift after seeing the wall hanging on Don't Call Me Betsy.

So the part I was afraid to do is cut into the yarn dyed essex in black for the background.  I bought a little extra since I wasn't sure how big I was going to make it.  Me and Math - we don't really get along real well. I am definitely a visual person.  So I planned out the quilt wrote the measurements and then measured my fabric.  Then I had my hubby check my work. I was taking no chances on me messing it up.

I cut the fabric.  Now when I know I have only a limited amount I somehow screw it up and cut wrong. Well, I went for it on Sunday night so I could figure out a back when going to the my LQS Monday night.  I sewed it up and it went according to plan!  I even have a little left over.  YEAH!  I was so excited.

We took a quick picture in the quickly fading light.I took one in the house and then one outside.  I need to get better ones once it is done.

So now it was to figure out the back and binding.  I had Moda club last night and they just got in Shades of Black.  Wow, that is a really pretty line.  Here is what I went with.  I am pretty excited to get this one done.  Hopefully the quilting will be as cool done as it is in my head.  This is the most modern thing I have done.  I am still a little unsure of it but as it is coming together I am just really excited to see this all come together.

The striped will be the binding and the grey print is the back.  I am planning on piecing the date in bright pink and a grey polka dot.  I am going to need a little practice on the free piece numbers but I think that it will look great on the back.

Hope everyone is feeling inspired and getting time to sew!   I need more time since the weather is finally nice it is hard to get into the sewing room in the basement.  Here is to a productive week!

A Birthday in the Family

My family doesn't read my blog but it is a space for me and every now and then I post something about the family.  Today my oldest turned 21!  I can't believe how fast time flies.

He is such a great young man and I am proud to be his mom.  I posted favorite photo of him when he was about 18 months on Facebook this morning to wish him a happy birthday.  His girlfriend sent us a photo of him getting his birthday drink where is going to school.

I have looked at these photos several times today and they just make me smile.

I will be able to see him on Friday when we drive over to have dinner with him.  Can't wait! He is finishing up his 3rd year for Industrial Engineering at UW Madison.

Thanks for reading since this has nothing to do with sewing!

WIP Wednesday

I have been busy the last two night with the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway day!  I have a giveaway here so if you would like to enter head there.  If you are a new follower welcome.  It has been fun to check out new blogs and the fun comments back to see what people are doing for the summer.

I have been sewing not as much as I like since work really gets in the way sometimes.

Here is where I am at on my WIP's:

I have been working on my Moda Club block which I am doing from stash with different grays as the background.  Liking these so far.  I have 4 more to make to stay caught up. That is on the schedule for this weekend.

I was able to get the heart together on my guild sew day last week.  Here is the quilt from Don't Call me Betsy.  I have changed the size and they are 4.5 instead of her pattern at 3.5.  Now I just need to get the negative space on there.  It is the black yarn dyed Essex.  I like this fabric.  It should be fun quilting it as well.

.

My bee blocks have been coming in and I love this block and this quilt.  The corners are black on white prints with each block scrappy rainbow.  I have two more that I have not gotten and will need to make a couple and will need to finalize a layout.

Finally, I put the borders on my Easy Street Quilt.  That seemed to take forever and I am liking it much better now that the borders are on it and I have had some space from it.  I have decided that I am going to have my longarmer do the quilting since it finished about 98" square.  I am not wanting to wrestle that one through the machine.  I still need to find a back for this one.

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you have a great week and find time to sew!  I am linking up with Freshly Pieced.

Sew Mama Sew Day Giveaway

Welcome if this is the first time you are visiting! I hope you take a look around and come back often to see what I am working on. I am biting the bullet and trying this out by doing my first ever giveaway!  I love to try to win prizes so why not be willing to give something back as well.

I am a newer blogger just started last November.  Just a little background my main craft is quilting.  Trying to use up the large stash from the last 20 years but buying up the new pretty fabric too.  So yes, there is some hoarding going on over here.

So enough of that stuff.  Here is what I am giving away:

A charm pack of the "new colors"  - are they still considered new?  I hear there will more new colors coming soon.  Either way I love the Kona Solids.  Here is what I did with the a charm pack of solids in the beginning of the year.  It is a Moda Bake Shop free pattern.

Here are the necessary rules.

1.  The giveaway will stay open until 5:00 PM PST on Friday, May 10th.  I will notify the winner by email before the end of the day on May 12.  Sorry US shipments only.

2.  No-reply commenters, please leave your email address in your message, otherwise I will have no way of contacting you if you win which would be unfortunate.  I will then draw a new winner.

3.  One chance to win by telling me what you have lined up for summer fun this year.  I can't wait for it to get here and we spend alot of time on the lake with family and friends.

3. There is no requirement to sign up to my blog, but if you would like to, new followers are always welcome and of course, as an added bonus, existing and new followers will gain an extra entry. So please leave a second comment telling me so.

I hope you come back to visit and now I have to go enter more giveaways too!

Pink Heart

I was able to go to the guilds sew day on Saturday and finish up my pink heart for a wedding gift.  I still have to put the negative space around it but I was so excited to finish it and it turned out really cute.

My friend who is getting married is an older bride so really not much needed for the household.  I thought this would be a great gift for them.  She loves pink!  Every shade and lots of it.

I can't wait to quilt some fun stuff on here as well.  I am planning on taking that in stages so not too get to overwhelmed or burnt out on it.

I took a quick photo outside before losing the light and heading out for ice cream. (not the best photo)

I made the blocks a little bigger than the Don't Call me Betsy Tutorial, mine are 4.5 instead of 3.5.  Hopefully  I will get some time this week and get the rest of the Essex yarn dyed and finish the top.
